LAUNCH OF THE SWALLOWS A BOOK ABOUT HISPANIC MIGRANT WOMEN
The Australian Hispanic Women’s Business Network (AHWBN) in conjunction with Bemac Publication wish to inform the community of the launch of The Swallows. This book is the
culmination of a project organised by the AHWBN. The purpose of this book is to record the successful lives of Australian Hispanic women.
The AHBWN is a non-political, non-religious, non-for-profit, registered cultural group of Spanish Speaking Women, with a variety of skills, focused in the promotion of their Hispanic background
within the Australian community, while inspiring other women and strengthening the group. The group met for the first time, in September 2005. That day sharing past achievements and future ideals
they realised that based on their knowledge, experience and skills, they could inspire other Hispanic women living in Australia, to overcome initial challenges and pursue their ideals.
The first step in the project was the formation of a writing group with the plan of obtaining interesting stories for a book and from this group many of the writer’s stories are included in The
Swallows. The second step was the organisation of a literary competition opened to Hispanic migrant women with the purpose of including the winners in the book. The final step was interviewing
the winners of the annual award of the AHWBN which is given to women who have distinguished themselves in any field and have promoted the Hispanic culture.
The general idea of The Swallows was to present the objectives of the AHBWN and to include interesting stories in which the writers tell of their experiences as a migrant, how
they confronted challenges and how they have become successful.
With this anthology the AHBWN want to show to the Australian public not only the courage and strength of the Hispanic women, but also be a source of inspiration to other women. The Swallows will
be distributed free to universities, libraries and other relevant government and community organisations.
The Swallows will be launched by the well-known writer, editor and publicist Ms Irina Dunn, Director of the Australian Writers Network. The launch will take place on Saturday 26 May 2012, at the NSW Writers Centre, Gary Owen House, Balmain Rd, Rozelle.
